Funnel Cake: A fall favorite

Filed under: Uncategorized — Carly J Hallman @ 12:17 pm

funnelOne of the best parts about the fall festival season is, undoubtedly, the food.

Funnel cake, a deep-fried heap of dough often sprinkled with powdered sugar and slathered with sugary strawberry preserves or sinful hot fudge, is understandably among the most popular of fair fare.

Funnel cake is made by pouring cake batter into a funnel submerged in hot oil. The funnel cake-chef then moves the funnel in a circular pattern, frying the cake until a crisp texture and golden color are obtained. While this oily process certainly does not make the cake any healthier (one 8 oz funnel cake is around 800 calories!), it does make for a worthy indulgence.

Even if you don’t get a chance to make it out to a fair or festival this season, don’t worry– delicious funnel cake is still attainable. Try this DIY recipe, concocted by celebrity chef Alton Brown.
