Glenn Beck: Prince of Pop-litics?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Carly J Hallman @ 3:36 pm

In the age of 24-hour cable news networks, the line between political commentary and entertainment is becoming…

Line? What line?

Last week, “Time” ran this article on Fox News talk show host and self-proclaimed Libertarian Glenn Beck. While an intriguing glimpse into an overnight media empire, the article’s most obvious weakness is that it never quite makes THE call– is Beck a political force to be reckoned with or just a slightly overweight pop star in a button-down shirt? Is it possible to be both? What about those other kings and queens of ratings Bill O’Reilly, Nancy Grace, Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, and Larry King?

Guess it’s up to us to make the call: is cable talk privatized propaganda or free market freedom of speech?
